Kaibab National Forest Seeks Public Input on Working Draft of Land Management Plan

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – The Kaibab National Forest is seeking public input on a working draft of its proposed Land Management Plan, which can be viewed at
http://fs.usda.gov/goto/kaibab/draft_plan.

The working draft is intended to provide a foundation for continued collaborative discussion prior to a proposed action being finalized.  The information received on the working draft will be used to make additions and changes to the proposed forest plan, identify issues and alternatives, and guide the analysis of environmental effects.

In order to be most valuable to the process, comments should clearly articulate the reviewer’s concerns and be received by June 1.  Oral and written comments can be submitted to Ariel Leonard, Forest Planner, Kaibab National Forest, 800 S. 6th St., Williams, AZ 86046; (928) 635-8283; Fax (928) 635-8208.  Electronic comments must be submitted in a format such as an email message, plain text (.txt), rich text format (.rtf), or Word (.doc) to comments-southwestern-kaibab@xxxxxxxxxx

Two public meetings have also been scheduled to provide information and accept public input on the working draft.

May 13, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Arizona Time), Fredonia Public Library, Fredonia, AZ

May 15, 10 a.m. to noon, Williams Recreation Center, Williams, AZ

Based on the input received on the working draft, a proposed action is expected to be finalized and made available to the public later in June.  The proposed action and any alternatives will then be evaluated in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement, which is expected to be available this fall.

For additional information on the working draft of the proposed Kaibab National Forest Land Management Plan or the public meetings, please contact Ariel Leonard at (928) 635-8283 or aleonard@xxxxxxxxxx
