Williams Ranger District Pile Burning Update
WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Kaibab National Forest fire managers plan to continue burning slash piles the week of Jan. 11 in various areas on the Williams Ranger District. The burning is dependent on Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) approval and favorable weather conditions. Upon ADEQ approval, fire specialists intend to burn piles in the following project locations:
Elk Lee – approximately 200 acres, ten miles southeast of Williams.
Dogtown – about 150 acres, four miles southeast of Williams, in the general vicinity of Davenport Hill
Pineaire – around 125 acres, ten miles east of Williams, south of I-40
Spring Valley – about 300 acres, in Parks, north and east of the Maine Consolidated Elementary/Middle School (tentatively planned for Saturday, Jan. 16)
Specific days for burning and total acreage will be determined by current and predicted weather patterns. It is possible that less than the projected total acreage may be accomplished depending on weather conditions and smoke impacts.
Ignition of the piles will begin early in the day, and smoke impacts will be closely monitored. Fire managers expect light smoke impacts to the surrounding areas. Smoke may be present for several days after ignition. The forecast for Monday shows light northeasterly winds.
