Prescribed fire plans for Thursday

Flagstaff, AZ
– Pending favorable conditions, fire managers are planning prescribed fires on the following projects for Thursday, November 5.

All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (
www.azdeq.gov).

Thursday, November 5

Fort Valley Project –
200 acres of maintenance burning (meaning the area has been previously treated with fire) northeast of Highway 180, 2 miles east of Snowbowl Road.  Fuels and thus smoke are lighter on maintenance burns; smoke will move to the north with the forecast winds.  Some residual smoke will be noticeable around Hwy 180 overnight.
Anderson Mesa Project
– 1000 acres 4 miles east of Lake Mary Road, south of Ashurst Lake.  Smoke will disperse to the northeast and will be visible south of Flagstaff.
Blue Ridge Urban Interface (BRUI) Project
– 300 acres north of Highway 87, approximately 12 miles northeast of Clint’s Well. Smoke is expected to move northerly, away from the highway, but may briefly impact the Clear Creek Pines and Starlight Pines subdivisions.  Some residual smoke may linger around Hwy 87 overnight.
