Prescribed fire update

No prescribed fire projects on the Coconino National Forest ignited today.

For Tuesday, Mogollon Rim District:
Blue Ridge Urban Interface Project, 570 acres. After careful calculation of forecast winds, humidity and temperatures, fire experts plan to ignite along Highway 87 near Mogollon Rim/Blue Ridge Ranger Station tomorrow. About 500 acres is maintenance burn, which means it has been previously burned, fuels are fairly light, and smoke will be light. The other 70 acres has not been thinned and will produce more smoke. Please use caution while driving on Highway 87 as the smoke could get heavy, especially in the evening and early morning hours.

For Peaks and Mormon Lake Districts:
No prescribed burns will ignite tomorrow. Later in the week, fire specialists will consider the following project areas: Kachina, Lake Mary, Anderson Mesa, Woody Ridge, Fort Valley, Eastside.

All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).
