Fire managers on the Coconino National Forest did not ignite any prescribed fire projects today, and do not plan to burn the rest of this week.

Yesterday crews accomplished 615 acres on the Woody Ridge Project, about 6 miles southwest of Flagstaff off Woody Mountain Road. This prescribed burn sent up an impressive column of smoke visible from Flagstaff. Winds overnight dispersed most of the smoke by morning.

Bow Fire - Fire crews on the Mogollon Rim District continue to manage this lightning-caused fire, about 15 miles south of Mormon Lake and 27 miles east of Camp Verde, near Mahan Park. This low-intensity fire has treated approximately 1500 acres for forest resource benefits. The immediate area of the fire is closed for public safety, with perimeter roads still open (Forest Roads 81, 81E, 9264L.) Smoke is visible from the Verde Valley, with minimal smoke impacts reported.

All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).
