Coconino National Forest Planned Prescribed Fire Activity for Friday, May 1.
Remember that all prescribed fire activity is dependant on weather, crew availability, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).
A-1 PROJECT: Approximately 150 acres located on the west side of A-1 Mountain, 3 miles north of I-40 off Forest Road 518 (A-1 Mountain Road). This is a maintenance burn – meaning the area has been previously treated with prescribed fire – so fuels and smoke should be lighter.
LAKE MARY PROJECT: Up to 500 acres southwest of Lake Mary Meadows northwest of Elk Park Meadows, off Forest Road 132. Smoke is expected to move northeast with the forecast winds and may briefly impact Lake Mary Road.
The Forest's prescribed fire activity is also available on the Prescribed Fire Hotline at 928-226-4607. Additional information can be found on the website, http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/conditions/current-rx.shtml, or by calling your local ranger station.
