WASHINGTON, Feb. 10, 2023 – On Monday, February 13 and Tuesday, February 14, Agriculture Secretary will travel to Louisiana. There, he will participate in events highlighting the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to combatting the climate crisis, addressing land management and water supply challenges in the West, and improving producers and forest landowners’ resilience, as well as building an economy from the bottom up and middle out and creating new jobs and opportunities, including for small and underserved producers and businesses.
On Monday, Secretary Vilsack will deliver a keynote address at the National Association of Conservation Districts’ (NACD) 77th Annual Meeting in New Orleans. During his remarks, Secretary Vilsack will announce historic new resources that USDA is making available to expand agricultural producers and forest landowners’ ability to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices, as a well as a new, comprehensive, and multi-state strategy to address key water and land management challenges across the West. The announcements underscore USDA’s commitment under the Biden-Harris Administration to combatting the climate crisis, addressing land management and water supply challenges in the West, and improving producers and forest landowners’ resilience.
On Tuesday, Secretary Vilsack will visit Southern University in Baton Rouge, where he will join Congressman Troy Carter and Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), at a press conference. During the press conference, Secretary Vilsack, Administrator Guzman, and Congressman Carter will underline the investments and initiatives USDA and SBA are carrying out under the direction of President Biden to expand economic opportunity and prosperity in the area and throughout the state, including for small and underserved producers and businesses. These actions will help create jobs, invest in and develop a competitive, well-trained workforce, close the racial wealth gap, and more.
