Media Advisory No. 0072.15 Contact: USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack to Give Remarks on Opportunities for Investment and Innovation in Agriculture at 1776 Fireside Chat WASHINGTON, July 28, 2015 – TOMORROW, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack will give keynote remarks at 1776, a Washington, DC-based global incubator committed to helping startups transform industries that impact millions of lives daily, including education, energy and sustainability. Secretary Vilsack will speak on challenges and opportunities for investment and innovation in agriculture, energy, and rural development. Secretary Vilsack’s remarks will come on the heels of USDA’s announcement of the first investments in rural infrastructure projects through the U.S. Rural Infrastructure Opportunity Fund. Through the Fund and its expanded public-private partnerships, USDA has facilitated the investment of nearly $161 million in private capital to 22 critical water and community facilities projects in 14 states, maximizing the impact of USDA’s own investments in job-creating rural infrastructure projects across the country.
USDA’s public-private partnership efforts, including the $10 billion U.S. Rural Infrastructure Opportunity Fund, three investments made through the USDA-licensed, privately-funded $150 million Rural Business Investment Company, and two new RBICs that were green-lit earlier this year are all part of a broader effort across the Department to rethink how to best leverage private sector resources to revitalize and reenergize the rural economy. Wednesday, July 29, 2015 WHAT: WHERE: 1133 15th Street, NW 12th Floor Washington, DC
