Agriculture Secretary Vilsack to Announce Critical Funding for Rural Electric Infrastructure and Smart Grid Technology
Major Investment in Rural Electric Infrastructure to Impact 13 States
WASHINGTON, July 20, 2015-- TOMORROW, July 21, 2015, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will hold a national media conference call to outline USDA support for 15 new electric infrastructure projects for rural areas in 13 states. These projects, which include Smart Grid technology, will help provide jobs as well as safe, reliable and affordable electricity for those who live and work in rural America. USDA efforts to support rural infrastructure help strengthen economic development, expand trade, create jobs, drive innovation and enhance education. This year, USDA has invested nearly $2.5 billion in electric infrastructure improvements and almost $31 billion since 2009. In FY 2014 alone, USDA loan guarantees have helped build or improve 19,000 miles of electric transmission and distribution lines.
