Media Advisory No. 0050.15 Contact: Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack Delivers Major Policy Speech on Future of Rural Communities at National Civil Rights Museum Remarks to cover Obama Administration Efforts Addressing Rural Poverty Memphis, TN., May 18, 2015 – TOMORROW, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will deliver a major policy speech titled “Poverty and Mobility: The Rural American Experience” at the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel in downtown Memphis. Noting the historic location, Secretary Vilsack will outline his vision for long lasting rural economic prosperity. The Secretary’s remarks will cover current Obama Administration efforts to address rural economic development and poverty and discuss a new White House report policy proposals to continue strengthening rural economies for the future. This address is part of the 10th Annual Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) conference, which brings world leaders and policy officials from 34 countries to discuss how modern policies can help rural regions reach their full economic potential. The event at the National Museum of Civil Rights is sponsored by the Delta Regional Authority.
