TOMORROW: Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to Host Media Conference Call to Announce New Investments on National Rural Health Day

Secretary to discuss Affordable Care Act and USDA efforts to strengthen health care in rural communities

WASHINGTON, Nov. 19, 2014 – TOMORROW, on National Rural Health Day, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will host a media conference call to announce new investments to strengthen health care in rural communities. The Secretary will discuss initiatives created by the Affordable Care Act and new investments from USDA that are improving access to health care and educational services in rural America.

Americans across the country began enrolling in affordable health plans on November 15. Over the weekend, more than a million people visited HealthCare.gov and CuidadodeSalud.gov to learn about their options, shop for affordable plans or to get enrolled. The open enrollment period lasts until February 15, 2015.

During the first open enrollment period that took place from October 2013 to March 2014, 7.1 million Americans found affordable health insurance coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. In all, the Affordable Care Act has helped 10 million previously uninsured Americans gain access to health coverage.
