Media Advisory No. 0061.14 Contact: Agriculture Secretary Vilsack to Announce New Support to Help Citrus Growers Impacted by HLB WASHINGTON, Sept. 17, 2014 - TODAY, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will host a media conference call to announce that new financial support is available to eligible Florida citrus growers impacted by Huanglongbing (HLB, also known as citrus greening). In Florida alone, the citrus industry, directly and indirectly, contributes $9 billion per year to the Florida economy and generates about 76,000 jobs. The value of the Florida citrus crop alone was $1.53 billion in the 2012-2013 growing season.
