USDA Under Secretary Michael Scuse to Host Media Conference Call on Record Agricultural Exports, Need for Five-Year Food, Farm and Jobs Bill
WASHINGTON, Dec. 18, 2013 – TOMORROW, Agriculture Under Secretary Michael T. Scuse will join Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast Executive Director Tim Hamilton and Dave Ramirez, Export Sales Director of Ohio-based Trophy Nut to highlight the need for a new Food, Farm and Jobs Bill to promote U.S. agricultural exports.
Food Export-Midwest and Food Export-Northeast help to grow exports of U.S. agriculture products and works closely with the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the Market Access Program and Foreign Market Development Program, both provided through the Farm Bill. Trophy Nut has benefited in recent years from Food Export-led international trade shows.
The Obama Administration has called for Congress to pass a five-year farm bill that promotes rural development, preserves a strong farm safety net, maintains nutrition programs, encourages the development of local and regional markets, enhances conservation, honors our international trade commitments, and advances agricultural research. A new Farm Bill would provide reauthorization of trade promotion programs that have helped lead the way to the strongest five-year period for agricultural exports in U.S. history, including a record $140.9 billion in agricultural exports for FY 2013.
