Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to Announce Report on the Economic Benefits of Commonsense Immigration Reform to Agriculture and Rural Communities

WASHINGTON, July 29, 2013 - TODAY, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will host a national media call to unveil a new report on the positive economic impact of comprehensive immigration reform for agriculture and rural communities. The report, authored by the White House economic team, outlines the worker shortage agriculture faces today and highlights the important benefits commonsense immigration reform would provide for the domestic agriculture sector, its workforce, and rural communities. The report analyzes aspects of the historic Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act (S. 744) recently passed with a bipartisan vote in the U.S. Senate, which would fix America’s broken immigration system and strengthen the rural economy by making sure all workers and employers play by the same set of rules.
