Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to Discuss Projects to Encourage Healthy Purchases by SNAP Recipients

 

WASHINGTON, July 23, 2013 - TOMORROW, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will host a national media call to discuss programs to encourage healthy purchases among recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Through a series of pilot projects, USDA and its partners are exploring innovative ways of encouraging increased fruit and vegetable consumption for participants of USDA’s nutrition assistance programs.

 

Secretary Vilsack will be joined by Oran Hesterman, President and CEO of the Fair Food Network in Detroit Michigan. The Fair Food Network is one of several organizations that have partnered with the USDA to empower low-income families to increase their consumption of fresh, healthy, locally-grown food.
