Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack Visits the New Orleans Area to Highlight Efforts to Improve School Meals and Raise a Healthier Generation of Americans

 

WASHINGTON, April 30, 2013- TOMORROW, Wednesday, May 1, 2013, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will visit Louisiana and discuss partnerships with the culinary community to enhance school lunches, improve childhood nutrition and prevent obesity to raise a healthier generation of Americans.

 

Secretary Vilsack will discuss USDA’s efforts to focus the national conversation on the importance of childhood nutrition, and the need for bold solutions to promote proper nutrition and increased physical activity for today’s youngest children. He will highlight the progress made since the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, to improve the meals served to 32 million children each day through the National School Lunch program, the cornerstone of USDA’s childhood nutrition programs.
