Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to Announce Efforts to Spur Job Creation through Regional Biofuel Production and Research
WASHINGTON, Oct. 15, 2012 – TOMORROW, Oct. 16, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will host a media conference call to announce a significant investment for the Northeast United States to help advance the nation’s biofuels industry toward developing regional, renewable energy markets, generating rural jobs, and decreasing America’s dependence on foreign oil. In September 2011, the Secretary announced five major USDA grants for the formation of five regional biofuels systems. Tomorrow’s announcement is a continuation of that effort and underscores USDA’s support for public and private research in building the framework for a competitively-priced, American-made biofuels industry in every major American region.
To create jobs in rural communities, drive economic growth, and help reduce our dependence on foreign oil, USDA is aggressively pursuing investments in renewable energy. This announcement will benefit recipients in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Vermont.
