Media Advisory: USDA Spokesperson to Address How Its Dietary Guidance is Communicated to the Public by the Food Industry and Others
WASHINGTON, July 16, 2012 – Dr. Robert Post, Deputy Director of USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP), will present “MyPlate: Serving Up Healthy Nutrition Messages to Everyone at the Table” on Tuesday, July 17, at the Bee Marks Communication Symposium sponsored by the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Dr. Post’s presentation will be part of a panel discussion, “Spread the Word: Recognizing Overlapping Goals and Existing Resources to Amplify Your Message.”
The panel will include discussions on the USDA’s 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, MyPlate, and SuperTracker, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Fruits and Veggies and More Matters, and the Institute of Medicine’s nutrition-related reports all focused on helping Americans eat better and ultimately reduce their waistlines.
This session will highlight USDA’s efforts and how Weight Watchers, Walmart and the First Lady’s Partnership for a Healthier America leverage USDA’s and other messages to reach their target audiences.
