Vilsack to Join Senator Stabenow at NASCAR Pure Michigan 400, Meet with Michigan Producers and Highlight Importance of Agriculture to State’s Economy
WASHINGTON, August 19, 2011- Next week, August 22-23, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will join U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry to highlight the importance of agriculture to Michigan’s economy and efforts to boost job creation through agricultural products. Michigan is one of the most agriculturally diverse states in the nation, producing more than 200 different food commodities at farms of a wide range of sizes. The Michigan agri-food industry contributes $71.3 billion annually to the state’s economy, making it the state’s second-largest economic driver.
