If so, that would explain why they were selected. If not, that's unexpected. (Keep in mind that trn sometimes hides the "(was: ...)" string from the user, so don't assume that it's not there just because it's not visible in the selector.) I believe that the single-plus version of that command should only select individual articles, requiring double-plus for selecting a whole thread. If you allow the command to be inferred (i.e. by leaving off the trailing "/+" while typing the command in the selector), trn will infer either a "++" command or a "+" command based on what kind of selector you're in (the former being chosen for the thread selector). There are also rules for auto-selecting articles as a newsgroup grows and articles get added to threads that had previously been selected (I believe that trn should only apply the auto-selection to each individual subject in a combined thread, but I don't remember for sure).
