this means the routines for building on FreeBSD are not optimized.

I do not know if it is a pinentry-tqt issue or rather pinentry issue. 

For example aclocal and friends is usually called automatically to setup the
local build stuff. Why is it not called there?
I suggest you move this question to the dev ML and may be Slavek or someone
else finds time to give us his opinion.
What does Mr. Nik says?
