Regarding the desktop icon text, is there a setting somewhere for this?
When Thunderbird was added to the desktop, "Thunderbird" was truncated
with the 'rd' appearing on a second line. But when in the Properties, if
the name is changed to 'Thunderbird Mail', the word 'Thunderbird' then
appears entirely on one line. The monitor resolution is 1920x1080.
Screenshots showing both are attached.
Thanks in advance.

Probably the space between the words makes the difference.
You might try shrinking the Desktop font with Control Center =>
Appearance => Fonts; that might help.

Didn't work. All that did was shrink the size of the fonts, along with
the icons. 'rd' remained on the second line.
Put an underscore or non-breaking space (U000A) at the end?
Non-breaking space could not be entered. Underscore - looks funny,
appears on desktop.
