Use dd to create an entire copy of the disk first. Then you can just paste it
back over any changes and turn it back in.
Search foo for a better example, but in general (don’t copy/paste!):
- Boot off a USB stick
- Mount external HD with enough space for copy
- root command prompt
root@local [~]# fdisk -l
Disk /dev/nvme0n1: {snip}
Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/nvme0n1p1 34 524287 524254 256M EFI System
/dev/nvme0n1p2 524288 1572863 1048576 512M Linux filesystem
{snip}
Disk /dev/sda: {snip}
dd if=/dev/nvme0n1 of=/SAVEDIR/win-orig-disk.iso
-or-
dd if=/dev/sda of=/SAVEDIR/win-orig-disk.iso
You want the whole drive not an individual partition.

didn't occur to me to do the 'dd' thing. well, at first that was
because I didn't see the drive at all. this is a neat solution.
