My system suggests that you may want "xdg-desktop-menu forceupdate" 
(xdg-utils, has a man page on my system) or maybe "tdebuildsycoca" 
(TDE, no man page).

kappfinder may also be able to help selectively stick applications back onto 
the menu, although it would require some user intervention.
