My setup's older, but I have:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root    56952 Dec 29  2017 /usr/trinity/14/bin/tdesu
-rwxr-s--x 1 root nogroup 60440 Dec 29  2017 /usr/trinity/14/bin/tdesud
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root    14832 May 22  2018 /usr/trinity/14/bin/tdesu_stub

And everything works.  I'd try unsetting the user read bit on tdesud first,
and see if that helps.
