As far as I could find out, most if not all of Trinity's "stuff" is in 
~/.trinity. 

~/.kde should not be related to Trinity any more

I usually make a copy of the new ~/.trinity, then copy 
from ./trinity/share/apps and ~/.trinity/share/config only what I know to 
need (usually kmail, tdeabc, kate, kicker) and finish the setup by hand...

The problem seems to be that details of the Trinity install are different 
between distributions, and Ubuntu and MX-18 are quite different (I gave up on 
both and went back to Debian).
