I have this file on my system, too, and I think it's from the latest upgrade of kate in TDE PSB (Nik and Michele actually talked about it and announced the integration of gcode high-lighting into the package, but you probably know that already). I find "G-Code" in the menus:
Tools -> Highlighting -> Other -> "G-Code"

Did you restart kate / kwrite after you installed gcode.xml ?

maybe copy "gcode.xml" to "~/.trinity/share/apps/katepart/syntax/gcode.xml" ...?

That's where I use "Ctrl + End" ;-)

IIRC, that's default behavior. I haven't checked again right now, but if I think you can configure that.
Settings -> Configure Kate... -> Application -> Sessions -> "Save Session"
