Either that or in the days of $100 500G SSD, just buy another SSD, put
the original drive from the HP on the shelf, and then install to the
fresh SSD (pretty amazing boot time -- 11 sec total from cold-power-on
to kdm login). Login to full desktop in less than 2 sec (on an old HP i7
2nd gen)
