Re: ib_isert.c

The driver/package is downloaded from
MLNX(MLNX_OFED_LINUX-3.2-2.0.0.0-ubuntu14.04-x86_64):
http://www.mellanox.com/page/mlnx_ofed_eula?mtag=linux_sw_drivers&mrequest=downloads&mtype=ofed&mver=MLNX_OFED-3.2-2.0.0.0&mname=MLNX_OFED_LINUX-3.2-2.0.0.0-ubuntu14.04-x86_64.tgz
Its default install script does not include
ib_isert.ko(isert-dkms_1.0-OFED.3.2.2.0.0.1.g378ff02_all.deb).

We as the end user have no idea which version of the kernel source
should be recompiled with.

Yes, it sounds like an OFED specific issue, involving the OFED provided
ib_isert being complied against the distro provided iscsi_target_mod.

Really, iscsi_target_mod needs to be included in OFED, and OFED provided
ib_isert should not be depending upon iscsi_target_mod provided by the
distro kernel.

My recollection was that MOFED lists exactly which distros/kernels the
isert backport is supported. In any event, if you are using 4.2 or newer
then you can use inbox.

It seems we'd better go back to MLNX to find the support.

Yes. However, v4.2 is recent enough that upstream should have all of
the hw drivers you need.

Are you even sure you need OFED to start with..?

Agree with Nic, unless you need some features that are not inbox yet
(I know Mellanox is trying to avoid these as much as possible), you can
safely use the inbox drivers.
