Plymouth not showing during boot on a rpi cm4 since kernel 5.15

Hi,

A blank black screen is shown during boot instead of showing Plymouth.
This is on a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 with a sourcekit.io board,
this started happening since kernel 5.15. I'm using openSUSE Tumbleweed
currently with kernel 6.9.3, I've tried both the default and vanilla
kernel. If I press ESC once I can see the boot messages, if I press ESC
again the plymouth logo is shown, so there it seems that something
might be interrupting plymouth. The root partition is luks encrypted,
it will wait for the password during boot, so it's easy to see whether
plymouth initially shows or not.
I've built kernel 5.14 on the same system, and confirmed plymouth
works. I've also built kernel 5.15 and confirmed that it no longer
works.
I've compared the source for the 5.14 and 5.14 kernel and can see that
there has been some work done to the firmware framebuffer stuff.
Could anyone hint any possible source code changes that might have
caused this, I can try source code changes but I need some advice where
to go from here.
