Thanks. The distro is an old openSuse that doesn't get updates anymore. The blame is on me here.

But I've updated most packages myself using "Linux From Scratch" and "Beyond Linux From Scratch" as a guideline.
Until now that worked nicely. And in some respect I was/am ahead even of the latest (stable) openSuse-distro.

I also have the latest elfutils-package (0.170). But according to BLFS it does not provide libelf-dev (or so).
And google et al. didn't help either - that's why I asked.

But knowing that it's not a bug is of help already.
