This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled drm/aspeed: Convert to platform remove callback returning void to the 6.5-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: drm-aspeed-convert-to-platform-remove-callback-retur.patch and it can be found in the queue-6.5 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. commit f096c95d137ee0933afc8e889799144f2988e211 Author: Uwe Kleine-König <u.kleine-koenig@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Sun May 7 18:25:28 2023 +0200 drm/aspeed: Convert to platform remove callback returning void [ Upstream commit 9a32dd324c46a0c76cac9d91e5a88abcf83f7b03 ] The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant.
