This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled scsi: mpi3mr: Bad drive in topology results kernel crash to the 6.1-stable tree which can be found at: http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git;a=summary The filename of the patch is: scsi-mpi3mr-bad-drive-in-topology-results-kernel-cra.patch and it can be found in the queue-6.1 subdirectory. If you, or anyone else, feels it should not be added to the stable tree, please let <stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> know about it. commit e1f926048d8c201b2a66f070e6b09950ee98020a Author: Ranjan Kumar <ranjan.kumar@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue Feb 28 06:08:35 2023 -0800 scsi: mpi3mr: Bad drive in topology results kernel crash [ Upstream commit 8e45183978d64699df639e795235433a60f35047 ] When the SAS Transport Layer support is enabled and a device exposed to the OS by the driver fails INQUIRY commands, the driver frees up the memory allocated for an internal HBA port data structure. However, in some places, the reference to the freed memory is not cleared. When the firmware sends the Device Info change event for the same device again, the freed memory is accessed and that leads to memory corruption and OS crash.
