Who asked for applying this to -stable?

The same is for the other patch:
"net: dsa: trailer: don't allocate additional memory for padding/tagging".

No one, that's kinda the point.

What point?

Sasha had an AUTOSEL program which speculatively searched for commits
that weren't marked for stable, but had certain trigger words that made
them sound like they should have.

Interesting theory, but no - it didn't come in via autosel.
In this case, I agree we shouldn't backport these patches to stable.

It would be great if you would also explain "why?" when making this kind
of statements.

This patch (and a few other dependencies) were queued up to get
9200f515c41f ("net: dsa: tag_mtk: fix 802.1ad VLAN egress") in 5.10.

Why is this patch not appropriate for 5.10? Have I missed any other
dependency?
