Problem with folder display options in SM-1.4.23 on FreeBSD-11.1

FreeBSD-11.1
Cyrus-IMAP-3.0.5
Squirrelmail-1.4.23

Can someone tell me how to change the left hand frame in SM to display
folders as:

INBOX
Folder1
  sub11
  sub12
Folder2
  sub21
  sub22
    sub221
  sub23
. . .

instead of

INBOX
Folder1
Folder1/sub11
Folder1/sub12
Folder2
Folder2/sub21
Folder2/sub22
Folder2/sub22/sub221
Folder2/sub23

There exists an Option on the Folders page which controls the
appearance of folders in the drop-down selection list. But it has no
evident effect on the display format in the folder-tree frame.

I know that both are possible because I have one SM (1.4.22)
displaying folders in the first form and another (1.4.23) displaying
them is the second. But neither allow me to change the way that
particular instance displays them.

I cannot find anything in the configuration menu (config.pl) which
appears to bear on the matter.
