This only happens when I try to login to Squirrelmail. Nothing has been changed ever since the webmail was made available for production use. The behavior is intermittent & hence I'm not able to catch anything in the logfiles.

enable and check database logs, and do not assume it's not a problem
with *your* system instead of a bug.
I've increased log levels both in php as well as httpd including mysql too. Nothing specifically points me to correct direction. Hence I ended up posting this to mailling list.
