Squirrelmail only displays the email correctly if it is downloaded as an attachment.  Other than that, it doesn't display correctly.  I think the problem does lie with the front end, as I don't normally have to download my emails as attachments when using squirrelmail for them to display as HTML content.

However, I'm using Google to download my emails and file them under my Gmail account. After Gmail downloads the messages, it shows up like this

The fact  google does not render correctly indicates an issue between the imapd and google, and since imapd doesn't care, the problem likely lies with google or any third party scripting used.
