I do this and it seems to work.

#!/bin/bash
find /usr/share/squirrelmail/* -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
find /usr/share/squirrelmail/* -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
chown -R apache /usr/share/squirrelmail/*;
chgrp -R apache /usr/share/squirrelmail/*;
