You don't have to edit abook_ldap_server.php. maxrows value is configurable.
It can be set, when you add ldap directory in conf.pl.

When you add ldap directory to SquirrelMail configuration in conf.pl, script
asks for max number of results. You can put any number there. See sizelimit
option in http://php.net/ldap-search. According to documentation sizelimit
is integer, so it should be limited to 2147483648 in 32bit PHP. If you set
it to zero, number of results is not limited and you might be restricted
only by timelimit.
