Could you connect to IMAP server with telnet, login as that user and run
LIST "*" "*" command?

telnet your-server 143
- some server response
A01 login that-user some-password
- OK some server response
A02 list "*" "*"
- some multiline response
A03 logout

Show result of 'list "*" "*"' command

If you use IMAPS server, you'll need telnet with ssl support.
