SquirrelMail only talks to an MTA like Postfix when sending messages. It should only be talking to *YOUR* Postfix installation, not your friend's, unless you are trying to use your friend's MTA to send your messages. Either way, just set the SquirrelMail configuration settings for the outgoing (SMTP) server to the right address and port and it will work as expected, provided YOU have resolved any connectivity/firewall/other issues FIRST.
