First, please check the posting guidelines.  It tells you what information
we need.  Absent that information I'll start asking some questions:
What IMAP server are you running?  What how are the emails stored on the
server (e.g., mbox or mdir)?  Is your IMAP server sorting your emails or
passing them unsorted and having Squirrelmail do it?

Background:  we used Dovecot initially with mbox format.  The first time
we would try to view mail in a directory with over 20K message in it would
time out.  The next time it would not.  Why, Dovecot had to build a set up
indexs for that folder which required all mails to be read and it took too
long and the php.ini timeout was reached.  Switching to Maildirs helped a
lot.   Details matter.   Please provide them.  Thanks.
