I'd guess you have qmail set to run with 'localhost' - you need to put 
penguin's IP etc. in it's 'hosts' file then point qmail at that IP 
rather than 'localhost' - you'll need to ask on the qmail list (or read 
the man pages) to find out how to do that, though.

Hopes this help you to look in the right direction. Sorry I don't know 
qmail so I can't offer any other advice.
