Anyone who tells you something like that does not deserve your
business.  Period.  The only reason I can imagine they'd say that,
beside utter and complete stupidity, is that they have a very
convoluted hosting system that will only work with your applications
if you use 777 permissions on the application data directories.  This
is unacceptable IMO.

As well as the following section.  If you cannot execute the
ownership/permission change commands listed therein, you have to ask
you host to do them for you.  If they cannot or refuse, then you need
to find a new hosting solution.
