Downgrade compatibility plugin to 1.3 version and remove compatibility 2.xchanges from functions/strings.php.
If you can see error with compatibility 1.3 version, make sure that SquirrelMailconfigtest.php (http://your-server/squirrelmail/src/configtest.php) does notdisplay warning about register_globals.
