which version of SM are you using? as far as i know, SM version 1.4.10
handles big mailboxes more effective than the previous versions. Also,
through php.ini you can specify the maximum memory a script can utilise as
well as the maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request
data and the  maximum execution time of each script.
