Following up to myself, but still with questions, a bit more looking brings me to squirrelmail bug 1664155, but going to the lines indicated 231 and 249 in global.php just drops me onto empty lines, could someone be kind enough to confirm that this is the problem, and if so perhaps point me to the actual lines in the file, my php is nothing like as good as my english.
