I'll do that. I was thinking of it differently, thinking that the message
could be affected even once I'd viewed it in SM. Your approach makes more
sense, to think of it as a download problem, so that plugins wouldn't need
to be disabled in advance of receiving such a message.

I'll try that next time I receive one. Thanks Paul and Fredrik!
