In 2006 version UW developers made questionable changes that broke
compatibility with some IMAP clients. In order to fix the issue
SquirrelMail developers must rewrite folder management code. Bug No.
1566128

If you don't need mix mailbox format, downgrade to uw 2004. If you have
large mailboxes and do need mix mailbox format, consider changing IMAP
server and mailbox format.
