You can install it with 'dpkg -i squirrelmail_1.4.8-1_all.deb' or fiddle with apt preferences. If something goes wrong - revert to 1.4.4-9 deb. SquirrelMail upgrade does not delete your mailboxes. Only SquirrelMail preferences (/var/lib/squirrelmail or database) can be lost if something goes really bad. If you are afraid that update breaks something, install similar setup on test machine or vmware and try updating SquirrelMail there. http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/KnownBugs (see 1.4.5-1.4.7 sections). http://www.squirrelmail.org/changelog.php (see list of changes between 1.4.4 and 1.4.8) Please upgrade to Sid/Etch SquirrelMail deb or use standard SquirrelMail 1.4.8 package.
